Norman S. Chapin, 87, formerly of Granby, beloved husband for 50 years of the late Patricia Ann Chapin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Springfield, MA to the late Sumner and Muriel (Davis) Chapin, he served his country proudly as an aviation electrician’s mate 2nd class with the US Navy during the Korean War and has been a Granby resident for almost 50 years. He worked in finance for Hamilton Standard for over 30 years retiring in 1986. Norman was an avid volleyball player even playing well into his 70’s, and he loved being in nature, hiking, camping or feeding the ducks and geese at the lake, but his true passion was his family who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his daughter, Jill Hyde and her fiancé Josh Oliver of South Windsor; his stepdaughters, Mary Harman and her husband David of Simsbury, and Beth Mission and her husband Walter “Skip” of Granby; his stepsons, Jeffrey Byrnes and Brinda Miller of Plainfield, and George Byrnes and his wife Deborah of Windsor Locks; his sisters, Wini Pomeroy and Lynn Gardner; thirteen grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister June Bliznuk. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 10 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Hayes Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St. Granby. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, April 11 at the funeral home with burial in Granby Cemetery to follow.
