James G. “Jim” Fiedler, 72, of Canton, beloved husband of Maureen J. (Polzello) Fiedler, passed away April 3, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, son of the late, Paul R. and Virginia Lee (Morrison) Fiedler, he was raised in Barrington, Rhode Island and graduated in 1963 from Barrington High School as a star athlete - and was later inducted into the Barrington Athletic Hall of Fame. He went on to obtain his B.S. in Education from Bridgeport University in 1967 and his master’s Degree from URI in 1969. Jim’s calling in Education began at Wilbraham & Munson Academy where he taught and coached. From there he moved to Texas and worked and coached football at Greenhill High School. Upon returning to Massachusetts he became the regional sales manager for BSN sporting goods for ten years. He returned to coaching at Suffield Academy, Cheshire Academy and retired from Simsbury High School in 2014 where he coached girls’ basketball and football. Jim was a sports enthusiast, he enjoyed coaching, watching and playing a variety of different sports. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed collecting baseball cards and sports memorabilia. In addition he enjoyed music and playing cards with his friends. He leaves his wife of 13 years, Maureen, his son; Stephen Fiedler and his wife Kelly of Westborough, MA, his daughter; Susan Newman and her husband Jim of Cleveland, OH, his grandchildren; Julia and Jacob Newman, Abby, Owen and Alison Fiedler, his step-children; Eric Soderburg of Bristol, Michelle Soderburg of Salem, NH and Jennifer Soderburg of Salem, NH, his brother; Norman B. Fiedler and his wife Sandra of Westfield, MA and his sister; Virginia Lee Bellamy and her husband Frank “Bob” of Riverside, RI, and his sister-in-law Doreen Fiedler of Edgartown, MA. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother; Paul R. Fiedler. His family will receive friends Saturday, April 7, 2018, from 11am-1pm at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon, CT. A Funeral Service will follow at 1pm. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
