Faced with Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction of six more weeks of winter, Alice Marie Johanson (born Alicia Maria Johnson in River Edge, New Jersey), 96, said enough’s enough on Friday, February 2, 2018. A staunch Democrat, proud first generation Swede and self-proclaimed Jersey girl, Alice was a Rosie during WWII and later owned a successful antique dealership in Bergen County, New Jersey and a sewing machine dealership in Scottsdale, Arizona. Feisty, funky and forever a free spirit, she was a one of a kind and will be missed by many. Alice is survived by her daughter Kori Johanson and her husband Jim Puhala of East Granby, Connecticut, as well as their children, Taite Puhala, a senior at Brown University and Ethan Puhala, a senior at Westminster School, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and many friends and relatives around the country. The family would like to thank the staff at The Residence at Brookside and Meadow Brook of Granby for their kindness and care. They would also like to acknowledge Phil Guglielmo of Farmington, Connecticut, who went above and beyond as a friend for many years. Services and burial at Brookside Cemetery in Englewood, New Jersey will be private, and in lieu of flowers, please consider voting Democrat next time as a tribute to Alice!
